Last week we celebrated Tu Bishvat, the Jewish New Year of the Trees. Tu Bishvat is a traditional Jewish holiday where we plant trees and eat food from the seven species; wheat, barley, olives, pomegranate, figs, dates and grapes.

To celebrate we eat a special dinner called a Seder.

We usually host friends, but due to covid it was just us 4. I even my made my great aunt Vered’s date honey cake!

We also did a family scavenger hunt with the IAC. We smelled different spices, went on a rock hunt and got goody bags complete with flowers to plant. So cool!

Thanks to our subscription box, Days we elevated our Tu Bishvat celebration this year with more fun actives. We started an herb garden, made chocolate with the 7 species stamp and made a mini wooden poppy tree.

We plant herbs and not flowers like they do in Israel, since it’s not warm enough to start our garden here in California.

We concluded the holiday by participating in PJ Library’s planting of Arugula seeds. So fun! Can’t wait to watch them grow!
