Wild Planet Tuna

After cooking for 5 days straight during the week, I basically throw in the towel when it comes to the weekend. However my kids still need to eat, so my favorite quick and easy, but lunches on the weekend is a tuna with crackers and veggies tray.

Thanks to Moms Meet, I was recently introduced to Wild Planet Albacore Wild Tuna.

Wild Planet tuna is packed without added water, broth or fillers, and
cooked right in the can. Simply mix the natural juices right back into
the tuna where they will be absorbed quickly and provide added flavor.

Did you know Wild Planet tuna is 100% pole and line caught, one fish at a time — considered a BEST CHOICE for Sustainability by the Monterey Bay
Aquarium Seafood Watch® program. Wild Planet is proud to support
pole and line fleets and will not purchase tuna caught using long lines,
nets or through the use of Fish Aggregating Devices — all of which
result in the wasted by-catch of other species.

They’re #1! Greenpeace recently ranked 20 well-known canned tuna
brands based on how sustainable, ethical, and fair their tuna products
are for our oceans and for the workers who help get the product to the
store shelves. As a mission-based company, Wild Planet is very proud
to have earned recognition as the #1 brand.

My family was so impressed with Wild Planet Albacore Wild Tuna that I went to their website and found a recipe for Tuna Cakes.

  1. Gently flake cans of tuna. I like to use this tool to break it down.

2. Mix in ingredients together until thoroughly combined.

3. Heat a bit of oil in a frying pan over medium heat.

4. Shape tuna mixture into balls and flatten into round cakes. Dip into the other bowl of beaten egg, then coat with a light layer of breadcrumbs.

5. Cook tuna cakes until each side is crispy and golden brown (3-5 minutes on each side).

6. Top with a squeeze of lemon and enjoy!

Where to Purchase?

Wild Planet Albacore Wild Tuna is available to purchase at Whole Foods
Market, Kroger, Safeway, Natural Grocers, Vitamin Cottage, Stop & Shop,
Jewel-Osco, Wegman’s, EarthFare, Peapod, Walmart, Target, Costco

Lantana Hummus

For weeks, Sarah has been begging me to set up a play date with her new friends from 1st grade. But with busy schedules and the long winter it was hard setting up a time where we can meet at a neutral place aka the park and get to know the moms. Now that the weather is warmer, we’ve been spending a lot of time at the park after school. One afternoon a few of the mamas and I got together for a little picnic at the park. My favorite food to bring to a picnic is dips and chips.
After trying Lantana Hummus at home, I knew it was the perfect dip to bring to the play date. Lantana challenges hummus category conventions by using other legumes and vegetables in its recipes in place of the more traditional chickpea. Their product line includes thoughtful, bold flavor combinations that are bright, healthy, and delicious. Available in 10 flavors including Sweet & Spicy Black Bean, Edamame, Sriracha Carrot, Yellow Lentil and Beet. My favorite is the Hatch Chile and my kiddos favorite is the White Bean. Yum!!

Lantana Hummus is non-GMO, vegan, kosher, and gluten free.

We got to the playdate and right away everyone was munching on my snacks. The moms were intrigued by the yummy flavors while the kids dipped their favorite chip into the hummus.

After the picnic, one of the mamas painted the girls nails. The girls and their fancy nails! To find a store near you, click here and look for the striped lids in the deli.Lantana Hummus can be found at the following retailers: Southern California area: Vons, Sprouts Farmers Market, Albertsons, Ralphs, Target and Smart & Final.

Color Garden

On the weekends, my family and I look forward to relaxing, hanging out in our pj’s and eating a big breakfast together. Sometimes it’s waffles, pancakes, or maybe even a breakfast casserole.

To change it up a bit hubby through in some food dye in his pancake batter and surprised the kids with colorful pancakes. The kids squealed with excitement and asked to do it again!

But after breakfast I had an icky feeling that we ingested a whole bunch of unnecessary food dye.

As I was searching for different alternatives, I came across Color Garden.

We separated the batter into 4 bowls. My sous chef, Sarah, added the individual color packets into the bowls.  My two year old wanted to help too!I love when I can make cooking a family event. All the colors are mixed in and ready to cook. So fun! The kids loved all the bright colors and mama was happy we weren’t eating chemicals. Win win!  We sat down for breakfast, drizzled some maple syrup and enjoyed our morning together.    Even though this was an activity for the kids, this mama enjoyed her pancakes (and coffee) too! Each individual packet delivers enough color for one medium-sized cake or approximately 16oz of frosting.

Color Garden’s pure natural food color includes NO artificial ingredients.

It’s made with 100% plant based food colors!

Blue = Red cabbage

Orange and Red = Beet Juice, Turmeric, Annatto

Yellow = Turmeric

Cal Water H2O Challenge {2017}

A couple years ago I made the trip with my mom and aunt to see the Hoover Dam.  It’s always been soemthing I really wanted to do, a Bucket List item as they say. Thankful I was able to take this little girls trip with my family.  It was beautiful and massive!

Yet I couldn’t stop staring at the noticeable water line. It was well below normal. It was frightening!!!Living in California we are always reminded that there is a drought.

At home we do our best to be water conscious.

We turn off the faucet while brushing our teeth, we have our shower heads set to low, and use reusable water bottles.

Join the Cal Water H2O Challenge and learn how to teach your kids about water conservation.

It’s crucial that all Californians, young and old, conserve water in order
to secure a reliable water supply for present and future generations. Cal Water H2O Challenge is a free program teaching kids how to care for water. This timely initiative consists of two separate competitions: the Classroom Challenge and the Individual Challenge.

Cal Water H2O Challenge’s Classroom Challenge is a project-based, environmentally-focused competition for classrooms, grades 4-6, designed in conjunction with NAAEE, the WestEd K-12 Alliance, and Cal Water. It is aligned with the Common Core State Standards and complimentary to the Next Generation Science Standards.

Cal Water H2O Challenge’s Individual Challenge is a media competition in which individual students submit original art, photography, or videos focused on caring for water. Open to individual students in grades 4-12 living in a Cal Water service area, students compete in one of three tiers based on grade level.

About Cal Water H2O Challenge’s Classroom Challenge:

The students of participating classrooms initiate, develop, and implement a 4-8 week-long project (or longer at teacher discretion), focusing on caring for water. This class-based project explores water as a global resource and as a local resource, while tackling a local water problem in an individual and community-based endeavor.

A handbook can be found at challenge.calwater.com/resources, including a guide for the ow of the project, and sample lesson plans.

Upon completion of the project, students create a final portfolio documenting their work. This portfolio, along with accompanying cover sheets, student reflections, and a teacher reflection, constitute the final submission. Sample Portfolios can be found in the resource section.

Early Registration closes Dec. 31, 2017. Final Registration closes Jan 31, 2018. Submissions are due February 28, 2018.

Curriculum Alignment: Common Core State Standards and is complementary to the Next Generation Science Standards. In aligning the curriculum, sample lesson plans were developed incorporating these guidelines.

Project-Based Learning: Developed with the help of the WestEd / K-12 Alliance and the North American Association for Environmental Education, their project-based learning model offers an effective and engaging manner to inspire students to community action while achieving curriculum standards.

Objective Rubric: Judging of the competition will be conducted by a panel of experts working in education and/or an environmental field. It will use an objective rubric, developed with the help of the West Ed / K-12 Alliance. This rubric evaluates the water topic choice, project goals, action plan, and outcomes, long term bene ts, integration with student learning and curriculum, student participation, impact on student learning, presentation, and impact on teacher practice.

As a busy mama I love stylish but functional clothing I can move in. It’s no fun wearing constricting clothes that don’t breath while your with your toddler at activities like gymnastics and mommy and me.

Thanks to prAna sustainable clothing I found good, breathable clothes that are stylish AND good for the environment.

prAna creates versatile, stylish, and sustainable clothing and accessories that you can wear during every activity, every adventure, every day. How do they know? Because they base their designs on their own experiences. You see they’re more than makers, they’re doers—yogis, climbers, and world travelers—and they use their knowledge to make clothes that look good and play hard. They like to focus on the details, and aren’t afraid to go bold when it comes to colors and whimsical patterns. They love to combine classic style with modern materials, ever mindful of where and how their creations are made.

I put prAna to the test and picked out two items.

I picked the Deedra Sweater Tunic and paired it with these tights and these shoes. The Deedra Sweater Tunic is a mid-weight knit woven from an organic cotton blend. Design features include a V-neck, mixed knit pattern styling, dropped hem tail, and side vents for a relaxed fit. My 2nd item was the Caraway Tights with this shirt and these sneakers. The Caraway Tight is a performance tight with moisture wicking properties. These high-rise compression pants are designed with flatlock construction and a triangle gusset for added durability. Complete with wide waistband, internal drawcord, and hidden mesh pocket. Both pieces were comfortable yet stylish. I love the rich colors and breathable cotton. Here are some more fun looks by prAna.

PACT Organic clothing

As a busy mama to two kiddos I’m always running around town. Last week I got to try my PACT Organic Clothing bundle and I couldn’t be more excited to tell you all about it.

I put my leggings, camisole and hoodie to the test. I went from taking my daughter to school on a chilly morning,    to a warmer Mommy and Me with my son,

to ballet with both kiddos,

and finally at home with the family.

After 10 hours of wearing the same outfit my PACT Organic clothes were still comfortable, soft and didn’t stretch out. I call that a win-win!

The hoodie was my favorite piece. The stripes were flattering, the hood was not to constricting and it had a thumb hook. Love it!

Not only does PACT Organic make super soft cotton clothing that is better for people, but it’s also better for our planet. PACT Organic uses organic farming practices that don’t pollute the soil or water while partnering with organizations that protect the well-being of the people who make the clothes.

Did you know?

Organic cotton uses 71% less water and 62% less energy than conventional cotton. Growing organic cotton keeps farmers and their families safe because they are not exposed to toxic chemicals.

My Pact Organic clothing bundle was so soft and comfortable! I want you guys to try it too. Click here or use my unique code: ChitChat25 and save 25% off your total!
